Our History
Dr. Joel Jess and wife Tammy purchased the Pekin Veterinary Clinic in 1990. Prior to that, it was a one-doctor practice with three support staff. Tammy Jess became the Hospital Administrator at that time, managing the clinic team of professionals, overseeing staff hiring and training, and handling financial concerns.
Tammy took on the challenge of designing and overseeing the building of Aboard the Ark in 1998 so that we could provide much needed boarding services for patients. Pursuing an area of intense personal interest, Dr. Jess obtained his certification in Canine Rehabilitation and Therapy through the University of Tennessee. As Dr. Jess expanded his field of expertise, he and Tammy opened the Small Animal Rehabilitation Center in 2004. They quickly grew out of their original building and, in 2007 they added an addition and completed an extensive renovation to the veterinary hospital. Tammy tells us, "This expansion has allowed us to continue adding new and innovative equipment and services to serve our clients in the best possible manner."
